Ahhhh Politricks… Certainly not my cup of tea at any party, but here on Playing Devil’s Advocate™ we like to serve up all kinds of tasty treats for our listeners to indulge in. Earlier in the year we did a show focusing on the Republican/Conservative side of the spectrum. So it was only fair to turn the tables and bring to light some of the concerns we have with the reigning Democratic/Liberal party that now holds office. It’s election season people, it’s the time of the year when the conversation of who should run our Country can lead to breakdowns in communication, understanding and even friendships. It’s one of the two things that we are never supposed to talk about… the other being Religion. These two things are also supposed to be very separate issues when it comes to our Government. However, the two are and always will be intertwined. No matter what your stance is, or which party you subscribe to… it is your right to have a choice and that is a fundamental freedom this country was built on. Having said that, I invite you to listen to “Political Coin Toss–Which Flippin’ Side?!”
This show is coming off the heels of the first of our two-part political discussion. Last week we began picking apart the Democratic/Liberal mind state in the show called “LIBERALS: Political Doormats”. I’m going to start by recapping that show first. Ms. KiKi centered her soap box and fired the first shot. She posed an interesting thought about how we as sports fans may root for a certain team, that is owned by an individual or group that supports a political system that may very well go against our personal beliefs. To further her point she suggested that the money that fans spend on said team, may use that money to endorse a party system that is in direct conflict with a portion of the team’s fan base. Would you stop supporting a team you’ve followed your entire life if the owner of that team was endorsing a party that differed with your beliefs? Many Liberals may never think to see it as a conflict of interest. Then again, do any of us really know where our money goes once we had it over to someone else?
Since she is from Chicago, Sporty Spunky Angel was very impassioned about the recent Public School Teacher’s strike in Chicago. We always hear campaign speeches with rhetoric about how we need to improve our Nation’s Public School education system, but can any of us say that on a whole it ever seems to get any better? Teachers may not be as underpaid as we are led to believe, but those in Chicago are fighting to keep theirs, maintain their existing health benefits, as well as salary increases. Also, they want to be re-assured that they have job security, pending the closing of several schools over the next couple of years. The stance was taken in opposition of educational reforms sought by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who used to be Obama’s Chief of Staff. How could this be allowed to happen at the beginning of a school year during an election year… leaving 350,oo0 students without a classroom to sit in and parents outraged and panicking to find alternatives?
We also talked quite a bit about Voter Fraud issues. It’s an ugly game of attempting to prevent people from voting by making new laws and new zoning restrictions to confuse voters. I, Peepin Shaun Amin brought up a few things that I found to be cases of flip-flopping on the part of the Democratic party. During the DNC the word GOD was noticeably missing from speeches across the board. That “Division of Church and State” thing. Ironically after hearing complaints, the word was reinstated after the fact to appease those who found fault in this. Only to piss off other groups who have a voice, such as Atheists. Many of the campaign promises that are made are often not kept. Some of these issues may not be at the top of the Presidential priority list for re-election, but are still examples of how much time it takes to actually make change. Obama was certain that Guantanamo Bay Prison would be closed in a years time. Well it’s still operational but, they are slowly decreasing the number sand no new prisoners have been placed there. Not exactly what I would call closing the place down. Listen to the archives to hear all the things we discussed.
We all seemed to agree on one thing. Liberals are taking a lot of heat from the Conservatives and nothing is being done in retaliation. No stones are being thrown back and certainly there has been no sense in standing up for themselves let alone retaliate. Some feel the “High Road” is always the best road to take, while others feel one good turn deserves another; that if attacked, one has the right to defend themselves. Where is the DEFENSE? Has the Democratic party become too complacent… are they too taken in with Obama’s smooth charisma and calm demeanor? Did the party win the battle, but may be headed towards losing the war? The fact is, none of us really know the answers or what goes on behind those big White House doors, so are we all being duped or do we as a collective really have the power to make change? Or at least hold those who can make change accountable for their actions or lack thereof. All we do know is that we all have a right and a choice. A right to vote and a choice of how that vote is used. Now I’m not one to tell anyone how to use that choice or their vote, but if you choose not to, you sure as hell better not complain about the outcome of any of it.
This week we continued the conversation and wanted to bring on a representative from each side of the aisle and allow them to answer questions based on their political views. We began by covering a few of the bigger issues on the pre-debate plate. How did we really feel about Romney’s 47% comment and Is continuing Obamacare really a good solution to our Healthcare issues? To hear the answers to these and other questions we raised in the first part of our show, you’ll have to listen to the archives.
Then it was time to introduce our panel guests who were to represent the Democratic and Republican points of view, but there was only one problem… only one of them showed up! We wanted to given both sides and view points an opportunity to be heard, but it seems our Republican entry became a missing ballot. Nevertheless we were very happy to welcome the President of the Philadelphia Young Democrats and Former State Representative candidate, Malik Boyd to the show. This thought-provoking and intelligent man spoke to us in earnest about what he believes in and what actions we all need to take into account, in order to make this country a better place for everyone. He was very open about the realities of what has happened since Obama became elected. He even expressed his diplomacy in regards to how the Republicans were able to take control of the House of Representatives. Instead of criticizing those in office, he expressed the need for people to take more interest in legislation on a local, city and statewide. The big vote is the one that gets all the attention, but those smaller races which most often go unrecognized are the ones that end up making an overall difference. I enjoyed hearing him speak from his heart, even in the face of my personal lack of overall trust in the political system of how our country is run. I know for a fact the women of PDA didn’t mind hearing his vocal tone become a part of this show. I can respect a man of sound reason and who is of fair opinion. One who isn’t focusing only on the bigger picture of a subject, but can identify the underlying smaller snapshots of steps we need to take to keep the hope of permanent change in the forefront of the conversation. Hear what Malik had to say about Gun control, the legalization of Marijuana and how personally he takes the subject of Education! As far as I’m concerned he would always be a welcomed guest.

What an interesting “Ask PDA” letter we had last week. Talk about role reversals in this household. We have a Conservative and a Liberal parent set. One of them is African-American and the other is Caucasian. Things always get testy for them during an election year, but it’s gotten worse ever since Obama was elected. Now it seems one of them is not so sure of the reason the why their mate choose them. It no longer seems to be a matter of love, but to gain acceptance to the other side, while resenting where they may have come from. You really have to hear this one for yourself.
This week’s “Ask PDA” letter found our writer confused about whether or not they could actually deal with the lack of attention and time received, from their politically intended love interest. One’s career can often be the an individuals top priority. It may be where they lay their heart and their head. For the ones who love them, their body may not be enough to sustain a serious relationship. If you believe in that person’s passion and want to become a serious part of their lives, you might have to decide that their mission may very well have to become yours as well.
Thanks again to Malik Boyd for joining us this week and to Rocky Miller for joining us in last week’s show. To all those that join us weekly in the chat room and by phone we couldn’t possibly thank you enough. Keep sending those Tweets, Facebook Messages and emails. We do it for you, but we couldn’t do it without you.
Tune in next week for “Shop Talk: The Barbershop” as we conduct our own debate about the issues men have with women today. We know how much you all love when we talk about relationship related issues, so we’ll give men a chance to air some of our grievances about our most beloved, but often confusing members of the opposite sex. Don’t worry the ladies with have their chance to respond and will even get their turn to do the same to men the following week. This is gonna be a lot of fun!
